Did you know…..
The name “Stegosaurus” means “roof lizard”. It was named because at first scientists believed that its plates overlapped on its back, like the tiles on a roof. Even though it could weigh over 4.5 tonnes, stegosaurus had a tiny brain. It was only about the size of a walnut. Stegosaurus plates were bony scales, like those on the body of a crocodile. They were not attached to the skeleton but to the skin.
